August 25, 2010

This morning we woke up early and started down the road by 5:30 am Mountain Time. A family of 7 raccoons ran across the road right in front of us. All but one made it. We were very glad they were not skunks!

Driving I-76 though Colorado the scenery is pretty much the same, corn fields and pasture land with a windmill here and there. The towns are quit far off the freeway. We connected to I-80 in Nebraska. It is much prettier this time of year than in November, when everything is dead and gray! It was a beautiful day and drive along the Platt River.

We took hwy 30 from Grand Island up to Fremont Lakes State Park driving through some of the small towns. We are parked right on the water and are having fun watching (Dick, of course is snapping pictures) the water skiers and wake borders go by on the one way lake. The lake is a rather long lake with a island in the middle.

It was nice to stop long enough to fix a good meal rather than a quick sandwich, salad and fruit. I was happy they do not have yellow jackets that come out when you start cooking. I did find the sandburs right away. It was in the 80’s when we arrived and cooled off to the upper 70’s for sitting around outside in the evening. By the time we went to bed it was 71 with a slight breeze and only 35% humidity.
